Tokyo Taxi Fares Price Hike
In order to improve the lives of taxi drivers, the minimum fare for taxi rides in Tokyo has been increased on Monday, from 660 yen to 710 yen.

Personally, I don’t really see a 50 yen increase making much of a difference in the long run. But I’m more interested in the rate of taxi fares in Japan and other parts of the world.
I’m not sure about other countries, but in Singapore, its actually pretty cheap compared to Tokyo. The starting base fare would be around 200 yen, and I’m pretty sure 710 yen could almost get me to most of my destination already.
My friend shared her experience taking a taxi in Japan, she said the driver was very friendly and professional in the service, but she got a shock when she got off cause the huge taxi fare was a culture shock for her. I think she paid like close to 10,000 yen for the trip from the airport to her hotel.
Do you take taxis frequently? I do take them from time to time since I too lazy to learn how to drive. And also, are the taxi fares in your country expensive?

Minimum fares here are like, 100 Yen or so, and you wouldn’t have to spend a lot to get where you want, unless you were going to the other side of the city or something.
Taxi’s in london are kinda expensive but sometimes necessary. price is somewhere in the range of £5 for as small as a 3 mile journey
OMG! I just can’t imagine that 10000 yen for just a taxi ride… That’s just daylight robbery… It’s 130 SGD for goodness sake! I bet the taxi drivers in Japan must all be rich people…
I remember a short trip from the shopping district within Disneyland to the hotel within Disneyland, which was about 1km+ away, costed 800+ yen. I was totally shocked at how the taxi meter jumped.
In the Philippines taxi fare is equivalent to 60 yen for the first five kilometers and 5 yen for every kilometer thereafter. Now, that’s what you call CHEAP!
