Evangelion Character Bento
This set of Evangelion CharaBen pictures were forwarded to me by a friend. Making charaben is one activity that is gaining popularities amongst otakus and fujoshi nowadays, especially for those who can cook.
The word Charaben [ã‚ャラå¼] is a shorten form of the word Character Bento [ã‚ャラクターå¼å½“] . Obviously its using food to design a bento based on your favorite anime character. I guess the original idea was invented by Japanese mothers to entice kids to eat their food. But now otakus are making it and bringing it to cosplay and manga anime conventions.
Here’s a bento consisting of the trio: Rei, Asuka and Shinji.
Of course, we mustn’t forget Pen Pen as well. Isn’t he so adorable.
I’m wondering if you used so much effort into make such a beautiful charaben, would you ever eat it? I think its just too pretty to eat.

I would admire it for a bit and then eat it… Some serious presentation skills there…. D:
LOL yea that’s pretty amazing, but if you don’t eat it, it’ll turn into poo and attract a swarm of fruit flies T_T
This is too beautiful for me to even think of eating it.
Well, I use to make bentou for my boyfriend very often – not so good yet as to make a character but making colour rice or doing scenes (last time I’ve did a garden) and it’s a pleasure to eat. Not only for mouth but also for eyes. Same as sushi in face and whole culinary culture of East – they really make sure things look nice when you eat it.
Either way, I hope I’ll have so many kitchen-ware and skills to create chara-ben for my kids when they’ll be born
!
I’ll bet ultraman would be pretty easy to make :3
Eva & Clover, lol.
thats amazing.
I suddenly feel motivated to make such a bento. Now I just need a suggestion.
@Hinano: Thats a really good point. It wouldn’t be preeti anymore with flies around it.
@Mizuu: Does making a colorful bento require alot of effort?
@mervyn: I guess making an ultraman would require losta ketchup
Well holy bananas that’d take a load of effort. But of course I’d eat it I mean the food would spoil.
