Belgium Murderer: Watashi wa Kira desu

Submitted by Alafista on Tuesday, 2 October 200744 Comments

Reported in a Belgium newspaper, there was a murder whereby two identical messages of the familiar Death Note phrase “Watashi wa Kira desu” was left at the scene of the crime.

This was reported in the La Dernière Heure, a French daily newspaper in Belgium. Apparently several body parts were discovered by walkers in the park in the evening in the forest of Belgium’s Duden Park. Left behind on the scene was a messages which wrote “Watashi wa Kira dess”. I’m not sure whether its a mispelling by the killer or the newspaper.

This is certainly chilling but why does everything has to be related to anime nowadays! This is making a bad reputation for us otaku. This is certainly a bad year for the anime industry.

This little piece of news was directed to me by one of my readers, akaa.

the murderer fails his japanese!! and ya..it feels like a bad year.

  • zenical says:

dess? its desu. oh well.. bad year.. for us too.. Odex.. SAD T_T

  • lu-k says:

Animes are already not very welcomed here in Europe…
Because we have some old-fashion politic monkeys that keep arguing animes are dangerous for kids since they are too violent and/or with too much sexual content… of course they’ve never watched a single anime, and have only heard of the worst, but some have wrote books about that, criticizing japanese animation and culture.
    This can’t be helped, but with those stupid events last days, things won’t become better ;_;

  • Ore-sama says:

So you guys are worrying about cartoon reputation while a human was murdered? Good going there.
Btw, I study in Brussels XD

  • hehe, the news itself is very cool and sick! Proud of being in Belgium!

But I do not understand why you are worrying about the reputation of Otaku…

The word Otaku had never been positive nor had a good reputation as far as I know…

This word has been known since the famous Japanese serial killer:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsutomu_Miyazaki

Therefore for me, the news sounds very cool, but not at all unnatural…

  • Ore-sama says:

    @Ken
Otaku is one of many words western anime and manga fans took over from Japanese language. They also use “baka” and “kawaii”, just as mindlessly as they use “otaku”. Don’t pay any attention to it, it’s just cartoon freaks taking their hobby alittle too seriously by trying to be as Japanese as possible :)

  • Kur0 says:

Lol, if he’s a real “otaku” he should at least learn some japanese. He totally destroyed the reputation of animes in belgium.
    *Waves farewell to animes*
    well done mr. idiot!!!!
(he could at least made it more fun, like make his own deathnote and write the cause of death and stuff…)
But anyway, I was really shocked when I read it, It’s terrible to die in such stupid way.

  • Soshi says:

When I saw this I sorta cringed. It could be that the murderer just liked random Japanese words haha but the media would definitely link it up to Death Note D: Luckily he didn’t leave a notebook behind.

  • Anya says:

… can’t help but think that all the people who will think “He needs to learn some Japanese” need to learn that Romaji isn’t Japanese anyway… and since ‘desu’ is often pronounced ‘dess’ it seems to me like a perfectly acceptable variation of the romanisation.

    Tch… call yourselves otakus…

  • Karasu says:

I have to admit that I’m kind of curious if the person(s) killed were criminals…

  • ryo B says:

lol this is scary. WE ARE ALL DOOOOOOOOOMED! lol

  • [...] quoted from Alfavista, Apparently several body parts were discovered by walkers in the park in the evening in the forest [...]

  • Alafista says:

@ Karasu: now you mentioned it, it would be really creepy if they were criminals.

@ Anya: I’m sure many people are aware that desu is closely pronounced as dess but I guess if you want to do it, you should always do it right. Thats why we are criticizing him.

  • 0rion says:

I think his point is that who’s to say what’s “right” when you’re dealing with romaji? Certainly the Hepburn and Kunreishiki rules for romanization are more well known, but there isn’t really any kind of accepted standard, either in Japan or overseas.

To call a certain romanization “right” or “wrong” kind of smacks of ignorance of real Japanese.

  • SANS says:

yea.. I wouldn’t say that it’s wrong either. saying it’s totally wrong is more ignorant.

  • Shippo says:

Im dutch, so I can read the dutch and belgium newspapers too. The guy misspelled the word on purpose. Some letters were drawn in other collors. “Dess” is the way you pronouce desu, so he probally have only seen the anime, and not the manga.

    @Alafista
Rumours tell that the guy was a shoplifter…

    @lu-k
    I couldnt agree more

  • Alafista says:

@Shippo: Thanks for providing the update.

  • Watashi wa L desu says:

    “Kira” 私はある L あなたの間違った行為に成功しない。

  • Kira says:

he’s a LIAR! I am the true KIRA!

  • watashi wa L says:

when I first heard this, i tought like oh please he’s giving a bad name to death note but if the people who were murdered were real criminals i think they diserved it

  • Noriko says:

OMG WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

    >_>

But srsly, that’s kinda creepy :S

  • true kira says:

No he is not the true Kira. I am the true Kira. You don’t believe me? That does not matter to me, in fact thats what i want(for now).

  • R says:

Well it must be pretty clear that the Killer ist a man.
I have read also that the cuts are pretty precise so the possibility that
a was maybe a prank by some med students, isn’t that far off.

    It could also be a Doctor or a Butcher..or a cook…
Also it yet has to be proven that all the body parts are of one victim.

Man I wish I could help out on this one….but there is so little you can do when your investigating on the internet. ^^

  • Unknown says:

Well I know this relates to the deathnote series quite accurately however this doesn’t sound like a “Kira” kind of thing. Sounds more like a mass murderer put on the brink of insanity to try to “out do” someone by being a criminal…But what do I know? I just spend my time searching for this kind of stuff daily.

  • This is a message from the REAL Kira.

  • The 'Authentic' Kira? There is none. says:

It is obvious that these people claiming to be Kira are doing it solely for the attention.

This was hardly an act of any ‘Kira’, rather, it was likely nothing more than a prank by some medical students. It certainly explains why the pieces found had previously been refrigerated, and I believe that the thighs were shaved, if I remember the details concerning the case correctly.

I had originally heard about it here.

Anyone could claim to be Kira..

    Boku wa KIRA desu.

..But that does not make it the truth. Words are such meaningless trivialities without any sort of physical evidence to back it up.

Regardless, the person who had placed the body there clearly was familiar with the Death Note series. Considering the amount of suspensions in the United States as a result of teachers finding Death Notes full of the names of students and other teachers? I can see someone trying to either pull a prank claiming to be Kira, or..even in the most disturbing scenario..Happen to have a fixation on the concept of Kira and therefore taking on that alias as their own as they commit these crimes.

However, I have not heard of any subsequent victims, which leads me to assume that this was just a prank.

On the other hand..it does not explain why the body was only two days old..

  • miki says:

    the mistake was the killer’s.

  • J. says:

this is a very meaningless way to try and pretend to be kira, instead of copying the name from an anime/manga why dont you be original and make your own name such as “ming bai” (chinese word for “clear”) then you will get more recognition and be laughed at less, although you will still be laughed at. while on the same subject, i do not think tht anyone trying to purify the world would be spending time on blogs, checking the mail maybe. but not wasting their time like you do “true kira” i have seen you on atleast 3.

  • Light yagami says:

to kira, watashi wa L desu,Real kira, real L/kira and the authentic kira you all are mistaken for i am the real kira but since we all share the same dream i will spare you and since there could be more than one notebook on earth i can’t doubt you but do not become reckless and hurt the innocent or you will truly become a killer

  • Ki Gai ko ma says:

You people are idiotic. No matter how many times you post no matter where you post it doesnt matter. The losers who think the death note is real have no lives. They are just kids who will never grow up and never get a life. They have nothing better to do other than go on sites and make threats to people. They do this because they have no life they have no friends and all they will ever do is argue with people about meaningless junk to get their kicks for the day. It’s what keeps them alive. They are addicted to the internet and will never grow up or anything. Get a life losers. Stop watching tons of sites to see if people posted. You watch them 24/7 like a loser. These people are the nerds and dorks and losers in school. Ignore them and they will eventually kill themselves because they know the internet is their whole life and they have nothing bettter to do. They are all a bunch of hentai watching losers. Thats all I have seen for a while is kids like this go around talking random shit. Its so pointless to do. I honestly hope you kids die one day. Karma is a bitch. remember that.

    • =^_^= Furry =^_^= says:

‘never get a life’ ‘addicted to the internet’ ‘watching tons of sites to see if people posted’ ‘watch them 24/7 like a loser’ ‘hentai watching losers’ ‘Karma is a bitch’

^^^^ These are all things Nathan rain always accuses people of, they’re also every thing he himself is guilty of (apart from ‘Karma is a bitch [that's just his gay little phrase]).

      Obvious Nathan rain is obvious.

  • Seiko jin 55 says:

Wow just wow. You people are nuts. DEATH NOTE IS JUST AN ANIME PEOPLE! GOODNESS!!!!

  • Seiko jin 55 says:

Also wtf is up with kids and death note anyway. I agree with most how said get a life. i mean goodness its an anime. do you really have to go out of your way to prove your kira or somethin? i really cannot understand people these days.

  • Keita says:

If all you people dislike the idea of a new Kira, I agree. Yet, somehow, Kira gets to some people. Like most in this debate.

We can’t rule out that Death Note’s do not exsist.
Shinigami are somewhat make-belief, but it depends what your own beliefs are. So, it is not my place to judge anyone.

If the note was spelled incorrectly; “Watashi wa Kira dess”, does that mean we are dealing with an idiotic Japanese person, or is the person German, English or French ?

Let the police do what they can. It is not our place to decide what to do about it, unfortunately. I suggest we get on with our lives until another killing occurs. If the cause of death is a heart attack, then we are in trouble.

  • kira says:

hmm none of you are kira the real kira would never act so stuiped if you were kira you would act just like me calm and watchfull while slowly passing judgment on everyone i dont care if you think im kira because if i am maybe thats what i want or maybe im just acting like kira so it draws attention from the real kira either way it doesent matter kira knows that nothing he says will be taken seriously he could say his entire plan here and no one would belive him and if you did try to tell the police they will only think you are mental and what makes you think the real kira will be human when the human is the thing thats corrupt the best place for kira to hide is right in front of you soon the world will be cleansed and kira will make everything anew and before you say im crazy realy ask yourself if kira stood before you would you mock him and call him a liar or would you bow in the presence of a god! as for why kira would say anything here maybe because its the only way his voice can be heard but not yet understood but like i said it doesent matter what you think because im the only thing that matters in this world of hate and bloodshed i am justice! and you have warned.

  • Sane says:

There is no Kira. Its an anime. You loser nerds.

  • Sane says:

And Watashi Wa Kira Desu means I am Kira In japanese. You idiotic anime nerds.

  • Roflcopter says:

Ooh come on murders happen all the time. Sometimes more violently then others but still…
People who aren’t mentally stable shouldn’t watch Death Note anyway it’s not my responsebility.

P.S.: I live in Belgium myself and let me add something this isn’t the worst murder i’ve seen.

  • --- says:

It was published that the newspaper were the ones who spelt “dess”/”desu” Incorectly, Some people in japan also announce it this way.
