Amazingly, more than half a million people turned up for Comiket 72 last week, making this Comiket recording the highest number of attendees in history.

Day 1 recorded 170,000 people, which was a 40,000 boost from last year December Comkiet 71. On Day 2, the event had 180,000 attendees on day 2 and 200,000 attendees on day 3, bringing the total to 550,000 attendees over 3 days.

Most of the people turned up on the final day of the three-day event at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center, about 11,000 publishing circles presented exhibitions featuring mainly original works. Among them was Noizi Ito, whose famous works include “Shakugan no Shana” and “Haruhi Suzumiya.” Popular manga artists such as Reine Hibiki, illustrator of “Maria-sama ga Miteru,” also took part in the event.

Fans turned up in large numbers to get their hands on original works by famous manga artists, and popular authors and voice actors were on hand for autograph sessions.

The next Comiket, Comic Market 73, is due to be held at the Big Sight Exhibition venue between Dec. 29 and 31 this year.
