Animage’s 29th Anime Grand Prix

Submitted by Alafista on Sunday, 20 May 20079 Comments

In the June edition of Animage, the feature content is their 29th Anime Grand Prix, where all readers of the magazines cast votes on their favorite anime, seiyuus and even theme song.

Most popular anime amongst fans: CODE GEASS

  1. Code Geass – Lelouch of the Rebellion
  2. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny
  3. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
  4. Ouran High School Host Club
  5. Gintama

I want to complain! how come One Piece is ranked 34!! These voters don’t know how to appreciate ass-kicking anime.

Most popular anime amongst fans: CODE GEASS

  1. Gundam Seed Destiny Episode 52: Final Plus
  2. Code Geass Episode 01: The Day The Devil Was Born
  3. Haruhi Episode 12: Live Alive

Most popular male anime character: Lelouch Lamperouge

  1. Lelouch Lamperouge
  2. Kira Yamato
  3. Athrun Zala

Somehow the in the polls, Kira is ever so popular even after so long. I bet the poll is rigged by his fangirls. This is getting boring and lame.

Most popular female anime character: Lacus Clyne

  1. Lacus Clyne
  2. Haruhi Suzumiya
  3. C.C.

This is blasphemous, how can Haruhi-sama lost to the lame Lacus Clyne. I also like C.C., she’s a really cool character.

Most popular seiyuu: Lelouch Lamperouge
Most popular theme song: COLORS by FLOW

Popular Seiyuus:

  1. Souichirou Hoshi  – best known for Kira Yamato
  2. Akira Ishida  – best known for Athrun Zala and Gara
  3. Jun Fukuyama  – best known for Lelouch, Kazuki Muto, Watanuki Kimihiro

I think that Jun Fukuyama deserved being first instead. (He won the Best Actor in a leading role in the 1st Seiyuu awards held recently). Like I said, somehow the Gundam Seed FYGs are rigging this competion!!! Takahiro Sakurai the seiyuu for Suzaku in Code Geass is ranked 5th, seems to be a close fight between Code Geass and Gundam Seed Destiny.

Popular Theme Songs

  1. COLORS by FLOW – Code Geass Opening Theme 01
  2. Hare Hare Yukai – The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Ending Theme
  3. Yuukyou Seishunka by ALI PROJECT – Code Geass Ending Theme 01

I must agree with this poll. I really loved the first opening and ending for Code Geass. I must say this again everytime I get the chance, the second opening theme “Kaidoku Funou” for Code Geass SUX big time compared to COLORS.

In summary, I think that this 29th Anime Grand Prix just like many of the previous ones were very “influenced” by what the fan girls decided to vote for. Last year was Gundam Seed Destiny year but now you can see Code Geass coming in strong from behind to wrestle away the trophy. I wonder what will pop up in the later half of the year that might overthrow Code Geass or maybe Code Geass will just continue to dominate.

Hmm? How come ya Most popular female anime character is Lelouch Lamperouge (ルルーシュ・ランペルージ) ?

    Nice scans and info!

  • Alafista says:

haha typo mistake, thanks for noting it.

  • [...] copy of Animage was way better in terms of content. They got the 29th Anime Grand Prix which I covered yesterday. They also threw in a deck of Code Geass poker [...]

  • Asuka says:

I’ve tried to pick up Code Geass, but after 4 episodes I keep falling asleep to the speeding masses of dialogues. Yep, reading that much subtitles is too much work.

Seeing how polls like these are usually biased, I don’t really make a fuss about the results anymore. It’s kinda like TIME’s 100 most influential people poll, where the number 1 winner usually has the most amount of crazy hikkomori fans. I can imagine them staying home all day, sending vote after vote for their favourite person/character.

  • anyonomous says:

Yeah these polls are biased but this could be said in the US or other countries.(If this poll were done here in the States Naruto (OMG) and Ichigo from Bleach would be Kings.) In Japan many of the readers of the magazines are fangirls/boys of certain characters. (I saw a poll on Newtype from 2002 and Spike Spiegel from Bebop was consistently on the list for more than a year after reading several isssues)
but in the US most of the anime that is popular (MEANING GETTING THE MOST SALES) is stuff that is usually action oriented. Shojo and semi shojo stuff is here but gets less sales and is less popular. for some reason IMO American(maybe not just American) anime fans as a group seem to be more intrested in fighting and guns blowing things up and demonic heroes rather than more shojo and romantic themes. I’m personally not into the Naruto-type fighting show madness, never was. to me it’s boring repetitive and is just full a lot of unneded angst. I prefer anything OTHER than the formentioned. I like more brooding Shonen titles (like Death Note) smart action series like GITS SAC. comedies fantasy and shojo as well as regular Japanese live action show and movies. Contrary to most folks I see (inside and out) I actually like Seed, Kira and Lacus (among other characters) they ridicule me because so but I don’t mind. I thought it was a great series
and NO it WAS”NT the best gundam ever (that honor would go to the original gundam and its offshoots and 08th MS team) saying that I must personally say there is a stench of death in the air regarding anime in america(at least on the web). and paramount of this is the passionate
war that is going on in the US and between what show one likes vs ones dislikes. Bloggers from the US who harsly Judge Japanese tastes as if american fans are smarter and superior to others may be freedom of speech but IMO DOES NOT MAKE YOU THE ATHOURITY. The hatred in the web community is so rampant (OVER CARTOONS!) I’ve left a couple of forums over it. it’s not like movies where two people can mutually disagree over who’s the better actor or sports talk about who’s the top NFL team and who’ll make it to the Super Bowl. Sure some arguments can get heated at times . but with Anime it’s tenfold there’s fur flying and every curse word known to man. I just don’t get it. that’s why I HATE Snobbery and Eliteism in regards to ANYTHING. I like what I like and ignore what I do’nt.

    walao…gundam series conquered again? = =
i dont like kira….that’s bad…thank god he lose to lelouch

  • Anonymous says:

I dont think that this poll was biased and face it. Bleach and Naruto graphics are getting from bad to worst. Even the fillers are getting boring and lame.

  • Xiphias3 says:

    Hellzzz Yeah!!!!!!!!!!
    Kira Yamato second!
Its understandable. Kira was around from 2002 and 2004. Its only natural for people to move on with anime. But for Kira to come in second is an amazing feat.
Just because you dont like Kira and Lacus, that doesnt mean crap. Fact is you are just one person. Its the majority’s opinion that count. If alot of people like Kira, then that’s the blatant FACT!
I like Kira. He laughs in the face of danger and deflects multiple beams on many occasions with his beam saber. He pretty much bitch-slaps Shin every time he fires his beam cannon. Kira demonstrated extreme accuracy with pin-point precision to have the Strike Freedom’s chest mounted beam cannon cliide with the beam from Shin’s Destiny and cancel out each other.
    Kira PWNZ ALL!
    Go Kira!!!
